  • it's that time of the year again folks, the EvolvIT 2017 Christmas cakes have arrived. Here's a photo of a batch of some of the cakes we have received so far with our Christmas Tree designed theme for 2017. We will be out and about visiting all our clients over the next three weeks to wish you all a happy Christmas and new year.   • As you are aware there has been a lot in the news about computer security and the latest ‘Ransomware’ virus that has attacked many systems worldwide. Here at EvolvIT we have a schedule of maintenance on all of our contracted clients servers, computers and hardware devices. This ensures that the security flaws these virus’s exploit are patched to help protect your systems. However the best course of action is also vigilance – never open an attachment you are not expecting, and do not ignore any warnings from your anti-virus systems. Should the worst happen and you feel something is not right please inform us immediately. Your systems are backed up so never respond to any requests for money to un-encrypt files, we can simply restore them from your backup.

  • We are pleased to announce that David Harding has been promoted to become our new IT Support Manager after 7 years of working for the company. Dave H will be now be running the support team whilst providing usual support to clients with the rest of the team. Congratulations to Dave for his continued hard work.

  • July 2014: Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS) has ceased production
  • If your business currently has Small Business Server 2011 or older then this information is vital to your ongoing IT infrastructure planning. Or if your business is growing and you are looking to invest in a server then please take note.

    Microsoft has decided not to release any newer versions of Small Business Server.

    If you currently have a server which requires upgrading or you require a new server due to its age and want to save money in the long run but also maintain the same functionality and reliability that you presently enjoy, you may want to consider upgrading to SBS 2011 before it is discontinued.

    By upgrading to the latest SBS 2011, you will have a further 5 to 6 years before you need to deal with deciding on an alternative.

    Microsoft's long term plan points to the Cloud as being the solution, and in many cases this is a good option for a small business. The new Windows Server 2012 Essentials is designed to integrate with Office 365 to provide small businesses with the on-site server, but with cloud hosted Exchange email. Cloud based services are not, however, ideal for many, either due to a lack of internet bandwidth, data protection/compliance issues or their lack of customization. Having the full Exchange Server product on-site has given small businesses flexibility and customization which is not possible in the cloud where one configuration tends to fit all. For these businesses, the solution will probably be a new virtualized server.

    Many end-users cannot feasibly use Cloud based solutions either: Broadband Internet in the UK is developing rapidly with faster fibre connections, however many UK sites still do not have the functionality to host fibre broadband and therefore will still be limping by with very slow Internet connections. The end result is that many businesses will struggle to use cloud based run server tools.

    Due to this change demand for SBS 2011 has become very high in the last few months and the availability of this software is very limited across the UK as businesses purchase. Anyone looking to upgrade servers in the near future are advised to upgrade sooner rather than later to avoid adding on ££££'s to the cost. Those businesses running SBS 2003 in particular which has now ceased support and requires upgrading are advised to consider migrating ASAP to avoid this additional cost, as in most cases it will require a new server.

  • You may have read at the end of last year we introduced a review system for all tickets closed and resolved for our clients. Thank you to all who have given feedback, we are averaging over 9.8 out of 10 stars since the system started. In May I am pleased to announce we received a perfect 10 out of 10 across the month for all staff on all support cases reviewed.

    Please keep leaving feedback (positive and negative), as it helps us further refine our systems so that we can continue to deliver the best service to all our clients.

    Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the team here at EvolvIT.

    It has been a real pleasure supporting you through 2013 and we look forward to continuing that support during what we hope will be a prosperous 2014 for all.

    Please note we close on Tuesday 24th December at 5:00pm and reopen again on Thursday 2nd January 2014. If you are a Virtual IT client then your systems will continue to be monitored throughout this period and we ask that if support is required during this time you make full use of our web based support facility. Should you be trading during this period and require support please provide us with your opening times so we can ensure we have provision to deal with your support requests. We will have a member of staff available on our usual phone number for the 28th, 30th and 31st should you require support during normal hours. Those customers who have emergency mobile contacts or are covered by an out of hours contract please call as normal, if the call is unanswered please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.

This bespoke exporting, converting and importing has to be prepared and completed in extremely tight timescales - working into the small hours or over weekends is not uncommon.

    So it is always nice when you receive a mystery package in the post to find 6 bottles of wine to say thanks.
